Experience Calcutta Pujas 

Once the proud capital of the British Raj, Calcutta is a city which evokes the sense of an era lost in time. It is a unique blend of new and old, ancient, and modern. It is a kaleidoscope of varied contrasts, unseen anywhere in India. It is a magical city, with rough and grimy upper layers but the real beauty embedded in its history, architecture and heritage lies beneath these layers.

The Tour: An idea, can be edited

We start the day early by 4 am  on each of the three days to enable us to avoid the crowds. We will take it as it comes as crowds are unpredictable. With breaks for tea, lunch and resting our feet.  The tentative programme is

Pujas

We will cover the regular prize winning pujas and also cover some special ones which come up every year. The Bonedi Baaris haven’t yet finalised their schedules and we will definitely visit these, Sovabazar, Laha, Chor Bagan Mitter etc. These are traditional family rituals. We will customise the tour with special focus on:

  • Behala, Suruchi Sangha, Badamtala which are near your residence
  • South Calcutta – Moulali, Shib Mandir, Tridhara, Chakraberia, Ballygunge Cultural, Maddox Square
  • North Calcutta – Kumartuli, Muhammedali Park
  • We will attend a Sandhi Puja, the lighting of the 108 lamps. These are in the old homes and am trying to fix one in the South to enable you to reach home faster to be ready for the next day, as stipulated by you.

Food

We will improvise as per schedule and location. We can eat along the way and eat a heavier meal only if we need to. On one day we will have Bhog in a Puja venue.
