Our thought is that a group of like-minded people can rescue homes and buildings by providing ideas and resources for their sensible and sustainable reuse with initiatives such as this.
Swabhav Meyeder Dol was created in 2021 as an attempt to counter the loneliness and trauma of the lockdown, by creating a space for marginalized girls and women to come together and find their-self worth through the performing arts. Over the last three-and-a-half years, we have evolved into a small women’s performance collective, creating plays on social and environmental issues, and performing them in schools, colleges, NGOs, bustees, terraces, courtyards and festivals in and around Kolkata. We have completed several shows of our plays ‘Miss Tiljala’ and ‘A Tale of Two Butchers’, the latter of which we are now performing in Hindi as ‘Do Kasaai Ki Kahaani’.
‘Do Kasaai ki Kahaani’ is a collaboration between Swabhav and a Chennai-based friend who is a dancer and visual artist. It is an approximately 40-minute performance piece, in Hindi, based on the story of Dharmavyadha (The Righteous Butcher) from Mahabharata. It has been conceived as a patachitra-cum-performance, narrated through a combination of scroll paintings as well as song, dance and drama. Moving between a sanyasi with a mighty temper, a forest-dwelling woman with magic eyes, a virtuous butcher and an ill-fated crane, the story seeks the root of power and nature of dharma.

Reposted from @deblina.banik2000 Calcutta is a city of palaces. We also have homes which depict unique lifestyles. A thakur dalan, Jhilmils, kharkhari which became the leit motif for Satyajit Ray’s Charulata.
We need to help save neighbourhoods. Small efforts that can make a big difference.

‘Do Kasaai ki Kahaani’ – ‘Swabhav Meyer Dol’ is an initiative for girls of marginalized families.
They enact this with elan. Unusual props, dance and songs set to popular tunes make it attractive. The Patachitra backdrops bring the message to life. A mesh of two dreams. The girls for a better future.
The home with memories that lives on.
