Wonderful insights
For heritage homes, small scale development is best, e.g. offices for designers, architects, independent service companies, etc. Financial incentives for repurposing should be offered. Calcuttans should not hesitate to explore in detail what other heritage systems throughout the world are managing the same situations. With online resources, never has this been easier or more full of potential. One of the main roadblocks in heritage efforts is to succumb to the negative aspects – the challenges – and then defeatism sets in. The struggle is a given. This is precisely the point at which the momentum of awareness and action becomes the imperative. Because, the stakes being high, the message is simple: when heritage is gone, it is truly gone. The soulful is replaced by the soulless. Rather than this being a fear or a dead-end, it should nevertheless spur one on to proceed with confidence, good will, and even joy.
